I’ve always struggled with comparing my blog to other’s writing. It’s only just recently that I’ve begun to open up more and share me…really just me…on the blog. It’s terrifying. But also really rewarding. And I finally realized the reason I like other blogs so much (including ones like Rachel Held Evans) are because they are genuine. Though they are big and popular and successful, I enjoy them because they seem to come from a real place…they are them, them, them. Truly. So why would I seek success trying to be anything but me, me, me? People aren’t just drawn to trendy writing, they’re drawn to genuine writing, honesty, vulnerability, the sense of community and friendship that writing (especially blog writing) can engender. Thanks for giving me more to think about on this topic.

I have felt that somehow, my writing just doesn’t quite fit in with everything else out there, but I think maybe that is a good thing.
